To equip and strengthen each baptized person to follow Jesus faithfully and to carry out the responsibilities of being a Christian, the Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit in a special way in the sacrament of confirmation. Confirmation continues and is a necessary completion of the mission of the Holy Spirit that was begun in baptism, making the person able to assume greater responsibilities in love and service of God and of his people.
Adults
Baptized adults may prepare for Confirmation through a specialized adult confirmation program. Requirements include: Baptism, first Confession, first Communion, practicing the Catholic faith (attending Mass regularly), and no Marriage impediments. For more information, please contact the Catechetical Ministry Office (619)463-6011.
Teens
High school teens can begin confirmation preparation in grade 9. Teens need to be baptized, have celebrated their first Confession, and received First Holy Communion. Confirmation preparation is a two year process in the Diocese of San Diego. Homeschooling families, please see below.
Confirmation Sponsors
To be a Confirmation sponsor, a person must:
We are happy to have your family at our parish and welcome your decision to conduct your own faith formation for your children who are preparing for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
The Diocese of San Diego asks that your parish be involved in the preparation for these sacraments as you homeschool your children. Essentially, efforts to homeschool your children in preparation for sacraments must be connected to the life of the parish since families are part of the larger ecclesial community.
To help you observe the guidelines from our diocese we have prepared a unique preparation process for your family.
We will not accept preparation done in private which had no oversight by the pastor or Catechetical Ministry Office.
Please contact us as soon as possible if you have already begun sacramental prep or if you plan to homeschool your children to prepare them for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation so we can share with you what we require.
